2 Bache, Professor A. D. Superintendent Report of the Superintendent of the United States Coast Survey For 1853
Washington Coast Survey Office 1853 First American Edition Hard Cover Fair to Good Rebound
An unusual item. The first 77 pages of text have been used as a news-clipping scrapbook, around 1900 and mostly dealing with President's, wives, marriages, deaths centered around the White House (Harrison, Roosevelt etc).Pages 78-186 are original text, clear of clippings. Sketches bound in at rear are half missing; left are stubs of some leaving intact 20 charts (folding) and tables. 10 charts relate to the West Coast (e.g. San Francisco to San Diego, San Diego entrance, Santa Barbara, San Francisco Bay, Columbia River, Shoalwater Bay, Gray's Harbor to Admiralty Inlet ( five coastal view sketches) &Juan de Fuca.). An oddity where the parts may have more value than the whole. Bound in new black buckram, gilt spine lettering, new endpapers with a rear pocket provision (empty). Uncommon.
