Contemporary full tan calf, re-spined. Bookplate of Duke of Portland with gilt Coronet & P on covers. With 15 engraved charts, views etc., many fold-out. Light foxing on endpapers. The appendices with all data (Pages 79-253) were not reproduced in the Caedmon Press reprint (q.v.). Phipps was 29 when he volunteered for the command of the Arctic expedition herein; among his Midshipmen was the future Lord Nelson. This was the trip upon which Nelson met a Polar Bear on an ice-floe; not herein mentioned however! (viii) 254pp .
